Daniel Tobey, MD, JD
Founder and Executive Consultant -
FlashLaw, LLC and Wolters Kluwer
Daniel Tobey founded the software company FlashLaw, LLC and
served as Chief Executive Officer until its acquisition by Wolters
Kluwer, a leading global information services and publishing
company. Tobey now serves as an executive consultant to
Wolters Kluwer, advising on the development of new electronic
products.
Tobey graduated from Harvard College and Yale Law School. At
Harvard, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna
cum laude with highest honors in social studies. At
Yale, Tobey studied health care law and received the Benjamin
Scharps prize for the best overall paper by a third-year student
and the Margaret Gruter Prize for the best paper on biological
sciences and the law. Tobey received a four-year Alumni
Scholarship to study medicine at the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical Center, where he was awarded the Southwestern
Foundation Scholarship for "outstanding academic
achievements."
Tobey has published original clinical research on pediatric
oncology in the Journal of Pediatric Blood & Cancer and the
Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology. His
writing on genetics, ethics, and law has appeared in the Yale
Journal of Law & Technology. Tobey practiced law at the
firm of Vinson & Elkins in Dallas, TX, where he represented
several hospitals. He has also worked on Madison Avenue as an
advertising copywriter; he authored the national tagline for the
Sony Walkman 2000 television campaign, which received a Gold
Effie.
Tobey is originally from Fort Worth, Texas, where he attended
Paschal High School.
