Hubert Zajicek is the senior director of NTEC in Frisco

As managing director, Dr. Hubert Zajicek leads the medical technology program at NTEC. His team assesses all new technologies applying to NTEC and guides startup companies through the early years of development. Dr. Zajicek also manages the daily operation of NTEC, a 50,000 square foot, state of the art technology incubator with 10,000 square feet of wet-lab space. With a focus on strategic planning and business development, Hubert brings his background in medicine and science to bear when evaluating companies for their potential to succeed in today's marketplace. Hubert advises NTEC program companies and manages NTEC's network of business and scientific advisors.  Hubert has worked as a business consultant to startup companies, creating business plans to raise startup capital.

Hubert has over ten years of experience in the life sciences. Before joining NTEC, Hubert was on faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center where he was an NIH-funded Principal Investigator and co-investigator of research grants totaling more than $1 MM from various grant agencies. His areas of research included Nephrology and Cell Biology with a focus on membrane transport and membrane composition. His interests extend into biophysics, fluorescence and imaging techniques. He authored and co-authored over 15 scientific articles, more than 30 presentations at national and international meetings and 2 book-chapters.

He received numerous professional awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Kidney Foundation (NKF), American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and AstraZeneca. He became one of the first Fellows of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN) in 2004 and received the SMU COX Business Leadership Center's Distinguished Business Leader Award in 2007. Before his faculty position in the Department of Cell Biology at UT Southwestern he was on faculty in the Department of Medicine - Division of Nephrology at UT Southwestern, where he also was a post-doctoral NIH-fellow.

Hubert received his Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Vienna, School of Medicine (1996), and his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in 2006 (Beta-Gamma-Sigma). He is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (F.A.S.N.) and an NBIA certified incubator manager.
