Joe Gatewood, PhD
Founder and President -
SeiraD
Joe M. Gatewood earned his Ph.D. in Biophysics from U.C. Davis
in 1988. His dissertation research focused on chromatin
organization in human sperm. Following post doctoral
positions at U.C. Davis and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL),
Dr. Gatewood joined LANL as a staff member in 1991. While at
LANL Joe examined gene expression in abnormal gestations using cDNA
sequencing, performed neutron and x-ray scattering experiments on
reconstituted chromatin complexes, and investigated alternative DNA
sequencing methodologies. In 1998 Joe began development of a
DNA sequencing instrument based on nanotechnology and
microfluidics. In 1999 Joe established SeiraD to continue
develop of this technology, and in June 2000 he left LANL to serve
full time as President of SeiraD.
