Lihong Wang, PhD

Director - Optical Imaging Laboratory at Texas A&M University

Dr. Lihong Wang is a Professor and Director of the Optical Imaging Laboratory in affiliation with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University.  He is an international authority on the principles of optical tomography for biomedical applications.  The primary areas of focus in his research include the Time-domain reconstruction algorithms and numerical simulations for thermoacoustic tomography in various geometries, Skin lesion classification using diffuse reflectance spectroscopic imaging with oblique incidence, Analytic explanation of spatial resolution related to bandwidth and detector aperture size in thermoacoustic or photoacoustic reconstruction.  He has published more than 85 refereed articles and book chapters on these topics.  Lihong received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Rice University in Houston, Texas in 1991.  Lihong has been awarded 3 patents with 3 more pending.  His extramural grants as principal investigator total nearly $10M.  Lihong's awards and honors include the following:
