Mike Bartlett
Vice President (retired) -
Texas Instruments
Mike graduated in 1976 from Georgia Tech with a BEE degree and
received his MSEE degree from SMU in 1979. He joined Texas
Instruments in 1976 as a Product Engineer in the Linear Products
Group. In his 28 years at Texas Instruments he worked in many
different roles in TI's Mixed Signal and Analog Groups and has
contributed to their significant growth during this time.
In 1993 Mike was appointed the World Wide Linear and Interface
Manager. This Group grew to $500M+ size in 1996 and was the
most profitable large Group in TI. In 1996 he helped break
this Group up into a number of smaller and more focused
Organizations positioning TI for future major growth in the Mixed
Signal and Analog area.
In 1997 Mike formed the new Bus Solutions Group aimed at
providing high performance/high speed interfaces and leading TI's
efforts in developing Gigabit capability. Product
responsibilities include CardBus Controllers, PCI Bridges,
IEEE-1394 "Firewire(tm)," Gigabit Ethernet, and Clock Distribution
Circuits.
In January, 2000, Mike was named a TI Vice President and took
charge of the newly formed Display Solutions Business Unit.
In this position he led the consolidation of TI's electronics
products supporting LCD Displays. This included moving these
products from internal manufacturing to out-sourcing to
Foundries.
On October 1, 2001, Mike made a lateral move to become the Vice
President responsible for the High Speed Communications and Control
(HSCC) Group, under the High Precision Analog (HPA)
Organization. In this role he was responsible for 8 smaller
Product Groups, all in various "start-up" mode and focused on
providing TI with new leading-edge analog and mixed signal
solutions. These are:
Fibre Optics Business Unit
High Speed Business Unit
Wireless Infrastructure Business Unit
MSP430 Ultra Low Power Micro-Controllers
Clock Distribution Circuits
Digital Radio Group
Optical Wireless Systems
Spreeta Medical Sensors
One notable side activity was that Mike received a 4 year
appointment by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to be an Industry
Representative on the "Information Systems Technical Advisory
Council" (ISTAC) from 1999 - 2003. In ISTAC Mike interfaced
with members of the US Departments of Commerce, Defense and State
to help define the US Policy and Regulations on Export of
Technology.
In 2004, after 28 years with Texas Instruments, Mike requested
and received an Early Retirement Package from TI.
Mike is currently active as a Consultant to the Semiconductor
and Medical Equipment Industries. He is also on Technical
Advisory Boards at Georgia Tech and The University of Texas at
Dallas (UTD), as well as interfacing with Professors at many other
Universities.
