Robert Rawitscher MD, a board certified thoracic surgeon
graduated from Harvard Medical School, completed his general and
thoracic surgical training at the University of Virginia and a
fellowship in cardiac surgery at the University of California, San
Francisco. He then joined the University of Florida.
Nineteen years ago he assumed leadership of the cardiothoracic
surgery program for the Promedica Health System based in Toledo
Ohio, currently the largest integrated health system in the
country. One measure of the cardiothoracic surgery program's
success was a 10 fold increase in volume with performance of over
1300 major cardiothoracic procedures a year. He has personally
performed over 4500 open heart procedures with special interests in
myocardial revascularization, left ventricular remodeling and valve
surgery.
Positions held included Chief of Thoracic Surgery, Vice Chairman
of the Department of Cardiac Diseases, medical director of a 25 bed
cardiac surgery step down unit and Chariman of the Physicians
Hospital Association. He was a member of the Toledo Hospital Board
and the Medical Executive Committee. He was the founder of the
Northwest Ohio Specialists, an organization with over 150 members
made up of independent groups of specialists.
He recently returned to Texas to spend more time with family and
friends.
