Presenting Companies

Hosted by the North Texas Enterprise Center (NTEC) for Technology and our sponsors, MEDVENTURES2011 is an annual, regional, early-stage investment and education conference focusing on the rapidly growing medical technology sector. The program includes Angel Investor / Venture Capital panel discussions, healthcare policy updates and presentations by some of the top emerging medical technology companies in the region. Our 2010 conference drew over 350 attendees. Extending the program in 2011 with additional networking opportunities and larger “trade show” exhibit area, we expect to exceed last year’s attendance.

Top 10 Presenting Companies for 2011

Our 5th Annual MedTech investment conference, MedVentures 2011 will take place on October 6th, 2011. This event would be nothing without the stars of the show, the presenting startups. NTEC received a record 70 applications and our 30 volunteer reviewers from our scientific and business advisory boards picked the Top 10 companies.  We had a strong showing from healthcare software firms and have three represented among the Top 10 presenters. Of the Top 10 presenters, eight are from Texas. We have four DFW startups, another two from Houston and two from Austin. Rounding out the Top 10 are startups from Ohio and Georgia.

The MedVentures 2011 "Top 10" presenting companies:

Arcos,Inc is a Houston startup that has developed a unique software protocol for sepsis management. In initial trials on over 200 patients, the mortality rates dropped from 34% to 14%.

Coltrix Biomedical, Inc has developed CollaPatchTM, which prevents the formation of post-surgery adhesions.

DxUpClose, Inc has invented a point of care medical device capable of performing antibiotic sensitivity tests.

Endosphere, Inc has invented the SatiSphere insert, a small, non-invasive device that uses the body's natural physiology to reduce appetite.

Genome Analytics, Inc's proprietary analysis system is capable of providing analysis of large genome, transcriptome and methylome sequencing studies.

Lumamed, Inc's device provides revolutionary "real time" visualization of cancer margins during surgery.

Macuclear, Inc has developed a treatment for Age Related Macular Degeneration, the world's leading cause for blindness in people over the age of 50, affecting over 50 million people.

NRG-Unlimited, Inc designs, manufacturers and markets the FDA-approved InterX, a high-density, interactive neurostimulation device for the management of pain.

OxySure Systems, Inc developed the OxySure Model 615, a revolutionary emergency oxygen device that received FDA clearance.

Waldo Networks, Inc has developed and launched a unique Remote Patient Monitor service (RPM) that delivers a telehealth solution used in the growing field of chronic disease care management.

These companies are meeting with NTEC's managment team and select advisory board members for a complimentary pitch review session before MedVentures 2011 on October 6th, 2011.

The Applying Process:

Qualities of Applicant Company

Applicants should exhibit the following qualities to be considered for a Presenting Company position:

• Applicant is an early-stage medical device and healthcare technology company in the product and service sectors (includes medical instruments and devices, diagnostic equipment, medical therapeutic devices, medical monitoring equipment, software and information technology for the healthcare field)
• Applicant possesses either protectable or protected intellectual property
• Applicant is one year +/- to market with a product or service
• Projected revenues are at least $50 million by the fifth year in the market; and supported by reasonable market share projections in the market segment of at least $500 million
• Applicant has received seed cash investment of at least $200,000

Applicant Submission

Applicants submit a two page executive summary that includes basic company profile with management team, corporate structure, address and contact information, board of directors, board of advisors, website and fundraising amounts. Submissions must also include a PowerPoint Investor Presentation containing no more than 15 slides. The Company Business Plan must be submitted upon request. (Do not submit business plan with initial application.)

Review Process

Applications were accepted through August 15, 2011. A panel of reviewers at NTEC selected ten companies to present at MEDVENTURES2011. Notification was sent to applicants by August 31st. Once selected, presentation rehearsals for presenting companies are scheduled during September 7th - September 23rd. A 90-120 minute rehearsal session is planned. Final presentations are on October 6, 2011 during the MEDVENTURES2011 conference in Frisco, Texas.
