Andy Lowes is a partner of Haynes and Boone specializing in
intellectual property law, including providing guidance to clients
in a variety of technical fields with particular emphasis in
medical devices, computer software and hardware, imaging systems,
and telecommunications. Andy represents a number of medical
device and other high technology companies in patent procurement,
intellectual property management, and acquisition of intellectual
property. He has been involved with patent and product
acquisitions ranging in value from several thousand to over a
billion dollars. In addition, he also plays a strategic role
in domestic and foreign patent enforcement litigations.
Mr. Lowes discussed many of the key areas that investors and
acquirers are looking for when performing their IP due diligence on
target companies. Having represented both buyers and sellers
in numerous transactions, the presentation is geared toward
providing real world guidance on how best to position an emerging
company's products and IP strategy to maximize the limited
resources of early stage companies. In addition, the
presentation included a brief overview of the America Invents Act
with the potential implications for independent inventors and
start-up companies.
