New medical technology businesses and jobs may be getting a
boost in the region, thanks to an alliance 10 venture capital firms
announced yesterday with the North Texas Enterprise Center in
Frisco.
As part of the Venture Alliance Partner Program (VAP), local,
regional and national VC firms will create an on-site presence at
the nonprofit NTEC incubator facility in Frisco as a way to enhance
deal visibility for medtec startups.
"We recognized the intersection of need and opportunity and
decided to provide a solution in the form of our VAP Program," said
Larry Calton, NTEC executive director, in a released statement.
The VAP Program is targeting venture capital firms, most of
which are out of state, that commit to spending from two days a
month to two days per quarter maintaining "office hours" at NTEC.
NTEC will help identify and screen companies and coordinate
meetings with the investors during their office hours at the
facility.
"This program should make the process much more efficient and
serve both the startup community and the venture capital
community," said Hubert Zajicek, senior director at NTEC, in the
release.
Texas-Based Sevin Rosen and Santé Ventures are among the 10 VC
firms that make up the alliance. Also included are Arboretum
Partners, Ballast Point Ventures, Chrysalis Ventures, Heron
Capital, H.I.G. BioVentures, Noro-Mosely Partners, Prolog Ventures,
and River Cities Capital Funds.
Founded in 2002, NTEC operates as a business accelerator -
providing a broad spectrum of services and support - to Medtech and
Cleantech startup companies from its Frisco headquarters.
