NTEC Announces MedVentures 2010 Conference Date - July 21st 2010

(FRISCO, TEXAS / MAY 28, 2010) - The North Texas Enterprise Center (NTEC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting medtech and cleantech start-up companies announced today its annual MedVentures 2010 Conference will be held July 21st from 7am to 4:30pm at the Embassy Suites Frisco Conference Center, 7600 John Q Hammons Drive in Frisco, Texas. This is an annual, regional, early stage investment conference and company showcase focused on the medical technology sector. This sector includes medical instruments and devices, diagnostic equipment, medical therapeutic devices, medical monitoring equipment, and other health related products. The program includes an angel investor panel discussion, venture capital panel discussion and a showcase of eight pre-qualified emerging medical technology companies.

"The purpose of the conference is to connect quality emerging medtech companies seeking capital with investors that focus on this industry sector," said Dr. Hubert Zajicek, Senior Director at NTEC. "In addition to investors, the conference delivers timely educational content to medtech entrepreneurs and industry professionals."

 Dr. Zajicek explained that MedVentures 2010 provides a "trade show" venue for vendors and service providers seeking to exhibit their capabilities at the conference.

 "MedVentures 2010 is NTEC's premier event and fulfills an important need in our region," said Larry Calton, Executive Director at NTEC. "Equity funding for seed and early stage companies has decreased dramatically over the last five years. Although the global economy and specifically, the US recession, has negatively impacted investors, high quality start ups continue to attract capital." Furthermore, Mr. Calton expects that MedVentures 2010 will beat last year's attendance record of over 300. "The program, which is a full day long, will feature more presenting companies, more program content and additional networking opportunities," he said.

 The following medtech investors are expected to speak or attend the MedVentures 2010: Santé Ventures, PTV Sciences, Sevin Rosen Funds, Prolog Ventures, Rivervest Ventures, H.I.G. BioVentures, Chrysalis Ventures, Scientific Healthcare Ventures, Hunt BioVentures, InterWest Partners, Texas Emerging Technology Fund, the North Texas Angel Network, Eyes of Texas Partners, Lone Star Angels, Central Texas Angels and Texas Womens Ventures Fund. Additionally, numerous individual angel investors and providers of alternative sources of financing for early stage opportunities are expected to be in attendance.

 The NTEC MedVentures 2010 conference is being supported by the following industry organizations: BioDFW, BioHouston, N.TX RCIC, Dallas Regional Chamber, The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurism at UTD, TECH Fort Worth, Dallas Technology Business Council, TechAmerica, and the Government Insider.

2009 MEDVENTURES SET THE STAGE FOR AN EVEN MORE SUCCESSFUL 2010 EVENT

The six finalist presenting companies from last year's event have raised almost $15 million since the conference. This is remarkable since all but one of these are pre-revenue companies. Dr. Zajicek said that it is a strong testament to the quality of the presenting companies at the MedVentures events and bodes well for anyone who gets chosen to present this year.

 "It is a sign of the times that almost half of this money was raised through successful grant writing and partnerships that allow these companies to move forward with their research and development without diluting their existing shareholders," Dr. Zajicek added. "Furthermore, two of these companies, Microtransponder and Stellarray, are also ETF recipients."

Here is a list of accomplishments since July 2009 as reported by the companies:

- Hygieia received 510(k) clearance for their glucose monitoring platform, and launched a third clinical trial after successful completion of #2;

- Microtransponder's issuance of a critical patent to their technology as well as significant grant and angel funding;

- Stellarray's successful grant issuances, prototype of a blood transfusion irradiator and R&D contract to work on a wastewater treatment solution;

- MDConnection's 1st million of revenue;

- Sironics completed the production prototype;

- Traumatec is continuing their major Baylor study and is getting ready to participate in three new device studies dealing with traumatic brain injury, stroke and emergency rescue respectively.

NTEC is experiencing a significant increase in interest to present at this year's conference and as a result, increased the presenting company spots to 8, with a possibility to go up to 10.
