OxySure(R) Assists Student In Extreme Respiratory Distress, Increasing To 23...
FRISCO, Texas, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- OxySure
® Systems, Inc. today announced that an OxySure®
Model 615 was successfully used to restore oxygen saturation levels
to normal values in a middle school student experiencing
respiratory distress at Scoggins Middle School in the Frisco
Independent School District (FISD). This is the 23rd time in less
than 6 months where OxySure was used to assist FISD students
suffering from medical emergencies.
On Tuesday, January 5, 2010 Rylee Greenwood was running athletic
sprints when she experienced extreme respiratory distress. She was
unable to breathe effectively, had a rapid heart rate and was
severely oxygen deprived. The school nurse administered OxySure
along with an Epipen, and her oxygen saturation levels came back up
quickly, which may have prevented a collapse. Said Susan Greenwood,
Rylee's mom: "Rylee's life was saved by the prompt and proficient
use of the OxySure device and Epipen by the nurse, Ronda Figueroa.
Rylee was transported to the hospital by ambulance and by the time
she arrived she was breathing normally."
The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) has issued a
policy statement indicating that the majority of sudden death in
children occurs from respiratory arrest, not cardiac arrest. In
recognition of this fact FISD has installed OxySure® throughout the
entire district, right next to every Automated External
Defibrillator (AED) in the district. The 23 cases in which OxySure
was successfully used by school nurses and athletic trainers in
FISD involved medical emergencies such as asthma attacks,
respiratory arrests, seizures, heat stroke, allergy attacks,
migraine headaches and a head injury.
Added Ms. Greenwood: "Words can not express my gratitude to the
district for purchasing the OxySure devices. In my opinion, the
district's decision to invest in the OxySure devices, and
therefore in the respiratory health of our children, saved my
child's life. Our family is very thankful for Scoggins and the
district for making sure our children are safe."
The OxySure® Model 615 is a safe, easy-to-use portable oxygen
system that uses two dry, inert powders to generate medical oxygen
quickly and safely. Model 615 can be placed in public places,
schools, businesses, churches, government buildings and in the home
to allow a layperson or bystander to provide oxygen in medical
emergencies during those first, critical minutes while waiting for
professional medical assistance. OxySure's Model 615 was cleared by
the FDA for Over-The-Counter (OTC) sale and therefore does not
require a prescription. In addition to the FISD saves, there have
been dozens of other emergencies in schools and districts, in
restaurants, and in commercial and home settings where OxySure was
used since April 2008.
